As you’ll have no doubt seen from my last blog post, I recently headed to the famous ICEBAR LONDON. The kind folks over at their HQ (which I presume isn't made from ice but who knows!) sorted out complimentary access and a few free drinks for myself and my partners in crime (you know my sister Katie The Stylinguist already and her boyfriend Nath who you might have met on her blog!)
Upon arriving we were made super welcome and were warned of how chilly it really is in there. We got caped, donned our gloves and headed in to the bar…at this point I want to point out the complete obvious…it was REALLY COLD IN THERE! Actually, -5°C to be precise! I had already picked my first ice cocktail before entering which was called Jumpin’ Jack Flash, a mix of Absolut Vodka, Apple Purée, Passion Fruit Juice and Lemon Juice all served in a block of ice…of course!
It was that cold the soles of my shoes actually froze to the floor and whilst you get around 45 minutes to be in there…we lasted probably around 20 before getting a runny nose! Everything is made of ice, the walls, the bar, the tables and chairs and even the glass you’re holding, so I would definitely recommend layering up before heading in!
The skill that has gone in to making the room is amazing, it’s the only permanent ice bar in the whole of the UK and the way things have been carved is absolutely amazing. The ice is harvested from the same place as the ICEHOTEL, the super-pure Torne River in Jukkasjärvi, Northern Sweden. They theme the bar each year which means it’s constantly changing and evolving, this time they picked ‘London Rocks’ and everything in and around the bar is to do with rock music, including the names of the cocktails!
After heading out to warm up, we hit their Warm Bar, a room-temperature cocktail bar with super comfortable lounge style seats. Our server was called Jamil and we really couldn't have asked for a nicer guy, he was super attentive and knew all the drinks so knew exactly what to recommend to us.
I would absolutely recommend heading to ICEBAR LONDON, advanced tickets to head in to the ICEBAR are available from £13.50 which includes you first ice cocktail - definitely something I’d recommend trying, plus it’s suitable for all ages (18+ of course) it’s such a cool venue that you’d probably never think of going to! Thanks so much to the team there for organising it and being so hospitable, make sure to visit their website here!
