So I make no secret of being a huge fan of M&S, especially when it comes to top model David Gandy’s Autograph collection, so it’s probably no surprise that the guys over at M&S outfitted me for the summer again this year.
This year’s Gandy For Autograph range is easily the best yet, with a really heavy mediterranean feel flowing through the whole collection. I took to the seas here in the beautiful island of Menorca in a private chartered yacht to explore some of the most beautiful hidden beaches, my Gandy for Autograph blue tailored swim shorts were the obvious choice for a day out on the sea, because not only do they look awesome with a nautical themed stripe, but they’re also really quick drying which is great when you’re jumping off the boat, because you won't be soggy for the rest of the day! They also come with a handy little bag to pop them in when you take them off, so you don’t get the contents of your bag covered in salt. I’d say these are a bit of a steal at £25, tailored shorts are so popular right now, and so many brands are happy to rip you off for them, with M&S you can grab them at a great price, and talking from experience, you’re going to be really chuffed with the quality!
I paired the shorts with my Gandy for Autograph flip flops, but took them off to walk around on deck, the shoes from the collection are all really cool, featuring a printed chevron type pattern, they’re worth checking out!
I didn't wear a t-shirt the whole time because no-one wants a t-shirt tan, but when the sun got a bit too hot and started to turn me a nice light shade of lobster, I slipped on my tee. The Gandy for Autograph Stay Soft Crew Neck tee is amazing when in sunny climes like the 30+ degrees that I was in, it’s possibly the softest, stretchiest and most comfortable tee I have ever worn, it’s £15 from M&S which I would say is about average for the cost of a tee, but it’s more than worth it, it’s great for keeping you at a comfortable temperature!
I don’t know about you, but I’m not a massive fan of the feeling of salt water when it starts to dry on your skin, so after getting a quick shower on the back deck of the yacht I grabbed my huge beach towel from the Gandy for Autograph collection this £25 cotton monster is more than value for money, I’m a bit over 6 foot tall and can easily lay out on this towel without overhanging, it’s really soft and dries you within minutes, it looks great too, adopting the chevron style patterning from the footwear.
Okay, so now you’ve seen some of the amazing Gandy for Autograph summer 2016 collection, it’s time to buy some yourself, but don’t worry about having to spend you hard-earned cash, I’m giving one lucky reader £250 to spend at M&S to help you get ready for your summer hols. Oliver Cheshire is owning the menswear scene right now, there's not a single FROW he hasn't graced and is a hot favourite for mens lifestyle mags. You probably know him as the face of M&S but I wanted to delve deeper in to Oli's style, inspiration and top tips for you aspiring models. I caught up with Oliver to get an update on what he's up to right now.
How would you best describe your overall look?
My style is a variety of lots of different things. I love the preppy look, but I still have a soft spot for leather jackets and rock 'n' roll Chelsea boots with black jeans. At the moment bomber jackets are everywhere and I love them, I wore one to the Brits recently, I think you can wear them with almost anything. I also grew up around a lot of sportswear-based fashion which is massively on trend and wearable, as well as very functional in today's fast paced society.
What do you think it takes to become a successful model?
You need to feel comfortable with yourself and the way you look in front of the camera, you also need to be able to listen and take direction well. Personality plays a big part too, and obviously you need to keep in shape, you don’t want to be too slim or too muscly as your body and face are your tools. I also think determination and resilience are also key, it can take a lot of knock backs and no’s before you finally get your break, and you can’t ever give up.
How long does it take you to get ready for a red carpet appearance, what’s the process?
It takes me about 30 minutes to get ready that's including the shower hair and moisturiser. The thing that takes the longest is picking my outfit and making sure it is tailored to perfection. The key to grooming in my eyes is less is more, find what hairstyle suits you and find creams that suit your skin and stick to them.
Have you ever had a style disaster? Tell me about it…
Sometimes I look back at shirts I've worn in the past and think Oh No what was I thinking when they're too loud. Also I've had a few style disasters when I've tried to pull off trends and they haven't really worked for me or they were just awful in the first place but I thought they were cool at the time.
Who is your ultimate style icon?
David Beckham has always been a style icon of mine. I was a 90s kid and when I was younger he was everywhere. He took risks with his fashion and that is something I loved, he wasn’t scared to try new things and he managed to set trends at the same time. Now he is older he knows what suits him and he sticks to it.
What would you say is a must-have style essential that every man should own?
I think everyman should own a good quality white crew neck t-shirt because it will go with everything you own. It has to be high quality cotton though, so it feels good against your skin and doesn’t get ruined in the washing machine.
What is the one trend you’d never rock?
Being on photo shoots, I've pretty much been dressed in most trends, but there are a few I personally wouldn't dress myself in for days out, such as, socks and sandals or flared trousers. But hey, never say never.
What does casual style look like in the world of Cheshire?
I love casualwear, there has been such a lean towards the smart casual trend recently with sports luxe and athleisure trends. I love to mix casual pieces with something more formal – i.e. mixing a tracksuit with a smart pea coat or a tux with a pair of trainers. Autograph menswear is based around smart casual dressing, with a big sports luxe influence. In the summer collection short suits are introduced to create a new look with a focus on style, texture and detail.
What’s your one ultimate style tip for men the world over to help them look photoshoot ready?
The fit of the clothes is key on any photoshoot, they are often pinned back by a stylist. It's also a good idea to get a good night’s sleep before your shoot so you don't have puffy eyes on set.
What’s your all-time favourite piece from Marks & Spencer’s Autograph collections?
My all-time favourite piece is the Autograph black wool and leather bomber jacket. It is the perfect transitional, layering piece; on colder days I wear it with a roll neck jumper and once it warms up I will style it over a casual crew neck t-shirt.
The new M&S Autograph summer 2016 collection is available online and in stores now. I personally want everything...you can shop the collection by clicking here!
I’ve been closely affiliated with UK high street retailer M&S for some time now and I feel like every time they launch a new collection all I do is say how amazing it is and how much I love it.
This is one of those posts…
The Autograph range has been pretty strong for a while and the spring range is looking pretty damn good, too! M&S say the spring collection is focussed around ‘smart casual dressing’ - perfect for all those garden parties and rooftop drinks receptions you’ll be attending, no doubt. The range is all about relaxed tailoring, neutrals, texture and detail and there’s a mix of sleek suits, simple colour palettes and textured pieces building the key looks for this season.
There’s some awesome printed shirts which would go great with jeans and shoes/oxford boots for one of those occasions that doesn't deserve a full suit and the range features a palette of neutrals, monochrome and greys which forms a great base of the outfit and is great to add a dash of colour to, as well!
The lighter items are great for milder days, however we’re British and ‘mild’ is about a common as seeing a flying pig so the statement black wool pea coat or textured black and white weave jumper form essential layering options.
With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, why not treat your man to some seriously good spring style courtesy of the M&S Autograph range - you can check out the collection by clicking here or by visiting your local M&S store…you’ll be seriously impressed!
We all know him as possibly the world’s most famous male model, everything he models turns to fabric gold. His close affiliation with Marks & Spencer has seen him produce collection upon collection of his widely popular Gandy for Autograph range…and he’s done it again!
This time it’s sports-luxe loungewear, something I think every man should own. Sports-luxe has been popular for some time now, it’s the epitome of comfy-cool loungewear that you can even wear out of the house (my prayers answered…)
Speaking about his comfy new collection, David says “Men want style in all aspects of their life. I wanted to design styles that could be worn pre and post workout, as an extension to my loungewear collection. The new styles have been designed in premium fabrics, with flattering cuts, and with traditional sports detailing such as engineered seems, adding style to essential wardrobe items.”
Amen to that, brother - I am all for comfy loungewear, gone are the days of the ugly Sports Direct sweatpants and in their place is some comfy, stylish and great quality loungewear. Prices, as usual for these collections are extremely reasonable starting from £22.50 with a top price of £39.50…not bad at all for such quality!
The collection will be available this month and I can guarantee I will be headed out to swag as much of the collection as I physically can. It seems every collection he does just get’s better and better, no wonder he’s seen as such a style god by men the world over!
I'm British and if there's something us Brits stereotypically love more than tea is a bloody good jumper (along with the word bloody, of course). My friends over at Marks & Spencer know how much I love a jumper and I got home to a surprise package from them containing a jumper from their new Autograph collection.Read More
